The Peter Principle is a concept in management developed by Laurence J. Peter, which observes that people in a hierarchy tend to rise to their "level of incompetence."  The Peter Principle states that, if you perform well in your job, you will likely be promoted to the next level of your organization's hierarchy. You will continue to rise up the ladder until you reach the point where you can no longer perform well.

ピーターの法則は、ローレンスJ.ピーターによって開発された管理の概念であり、階層社会の人々は「無能のレベル」に上昇する傾向があることを観察しています。 Peter Principleは、仕事でうまくやれば、組織の階層の次のレベルに昇進する可能性が高いと述べています。しかしずっと梯子を登りつめるとそれ以上は成し遂げられなくなり無能な中間管理職になる。

Examples

  1. He was promoted numerous times, but when he became vice president, he could not do the job up to expectations. When the president fired him, he mentioned that he was a victim of the Peter Principle.
