Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls is known as the “honeymoon capital of the world” and was our vacation destination for our 25th wedding anniversary celebration this summer.

As you may know, Niagara Falls had been awarded this title in the early 1800’s when Napoleon Bonapart’s brother, Jerome, honeymooned with his new bride.  From that point on, honeymooners and those celebrating significant milestones sought out the Falls along with all other tourists for its beauty and wonder.

Niagara Falls spans both the United States and Canada side of the Niagara River.  Amazingly, over three thousand tons of water flow over the Falls every second. There is much history surrounding them; how they came to be and how they have changed over the years.

Yes, the Falls are magnificent!  Not only is Niagara Falls a scenic wonder and destination for many honeymooners and tourists alike but is also a bit of a romantic one too!

So off we went to Niagara Falls in Ontario, Canada.  We had a beautiful six-hour drive from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania through upstate New York countryside and then finally arrived at our destination in Canada.

The view of the Falls from our hotel room didn’t disappoint.  It was a great vantage point to see it in all its splendor

Our visit started with an up-close tour of the Falls.  Here’s a picture of one of the boats that we took to get a closer look at the Falls.

There's a rainbow that is ever present over the Falls due to the mist and the sun shining through.  This ride near the Falls was the highlight of our trip.  Of course, we got drenched from the mist, but it was exhilarating and well worth it!

There’s a long walkway along the Niagara River where sightseers can view the Falls from all different perspectives.  As we were walking along this path, our tour guide had several stories about the history of the Falls and of the many celebrities and movies that were filmed here.

While we mainly stayed in the immediate vicinity of the Falls, there are other attractions nearby.   We visited the beautiful Botanical Gardens and the Butterfly Conservatory just north of downtown.

I happened to capture a beautiful butterfly resting on a stone wall in the Conservatory.  Just stunning!

Our trip came to an end, and we started our drive back to Pennsylvania.  All in all, we had a marvelous time on and near Niagara Falls.
